In the early 17th century, the pineapple was a rare and expensive delicacy coveted by the rich and royalty which came to represent all that we appreciate in a home: warmth, welcome, friendship, and hospitality.

Christopher Columbus and his crew ate, enjoyed and wrote about the curious new fruit, taking it back to Europe to try and cultivate it for the European upper class.

In Colonial America, hostesses would use a pineapple centerpiece for their guests symbolizing the warmest welcome a hostess could extend. Regardless of ones financial status, visitors to the homes that displayed the pineapple felt particularly honored that the hostess had spared no expense to secure one in their behalf.

A century later it was widely introduced into European and American architecture, representing everything from door knockers to decor to furniture and intricate wood carvings over doorways to welcome guests. It remains the essence of hospitality to this day.

At CHANGE MY PLACE we bring the philosophy of the pineapple’s symbolism into each and every home creating a sense of pride when welcoming family and friends to your newly designed space.

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
